I started volunteering in February of this year. I volunteer once per week, and I chose Wednesday. (I don't know how I chose Wednesday 😂)
When I started out, it was difficult. I didn’t know how to talk to people, I didn’t understand the way things worked, and I was super tired from my brain working so much. It was a challenge, that’s for sure! But, slowly and surely I’ve gotten there!
I volunteer in the gift shop. I’ve tried working up front and checking people in, but honestly, I didn’t like it, I love the gift shop. I can check people out, restock inventory, or decide if we are ordering something again. I love the go-go-go even though this isn’t as fast as I used to go-go-go before.
When I came to the Sedona Heritage Museum, I was immediately met with kindness. Julie, Kathy, Nate and so many more were warm-hearted and understanding towards me and my issues. They would explain the way things were done or how we needed to figure something out. It was and continues to be amazing.
Now, I go in on Wednesdays and sell gifts. We have everything from Sedona stickers to locally-made soap to books on the destination - we have TONS of books! Some days we are dead, but some days it's crazy busy. There are days when I have to call in Julie because I need a hand checking people out. That’s how crazy busy we get!
Overall, I’m beyond grateful for how much I have learned and the extraordinary people who have taught me. THANK YOU!
